Account suspended or deactivated
Walmart Marketplace account deactivated: how to appeal and get reinstated
Walmart deactivations are usually performance driven rather than policy driven, which makes them different from Amazon and eBay suspensions. The account is measured against published performance standards, and once a metric breaches for long enough the account is suspended and then deactivated. An appeal that only apologises will not work. Walmart wants the operational cause of the metric and the change that fixes it.

The common reasons
- Performance standards breach. Order defect rate, on-time delivery, valid tracking rate, or cancellation rate outside Walmart's published thresholds over the measurement window.
- Prohibited or restricted items. Listing goods Walmart does not permit, or that need approval you do not have.
- Intellectual property complaints. Trademark, copyright, or counterfeit claims from a rights owner.
- Item quality and customer complaints. A cluster of returns or complaints indicating items not as described.
- Pricing policy. Walmart enforces price parity and price gouging rules more actively than most marketplaces. Items priced above other channels get delisted, and repeat breaches escalate.
- Business verification. Tax, banking, or entity documentation not completed or not matching.
- Dropshipping from another retailer. Fulfilling Walmart orders by ordering from a competing retailer breaches the seller agreement and is a fast route to deactivation.
Diagnose the operational cause
Walmart is asking a straightforward question: what in your operation produced these numbers, and what has changed so it will not produce them again. Work backwards from the metric to the process.
- 1
Late deliveries
Look at whether the fault is your handling time, your carrier's transit time, or a lead time set optimistically in your listings. Very often the true fix is extending the stated handling time rather than promising to be faster.
- 2
Cancellations
Almost always inventory accuracy. Stock sold on another channel and not decremented on Walmart, or a supplier that ran out. The fix is a feed cadence or a buffer, stated concretely.
- 3
Missing or invalid tracking
Usually a fulfilment step that uploads tracking in a batch after dispatch, or numbers from a carrier Walmart cannot follow. Both are fixable and both are easy to describe.
- 4
Returns and item quality
Look for a single SKU or supplier driving the complaints. Naming it, and saying you have pulled it, is far more persuasive than a general commitment to quality.
The appeal
Submit through the appeal link in the deactivation notice, or open a case in Seller Center under Account Deactivation. Attach any supporting data as a spreadsheet rather than pasting it into the message.
Keep it to one page. Numbers first, commitments second.
Seller name: [name] Partner ID: [ID] Deactivation reason: [exact reason from the notice] Metric and period [Name the metric, the value that breached, the threshold, and the measurement window. Example: on-time delivery of 88.4% against a 95% standard over the 90 days to [date].] Root cause [The operational cause, specifically. Example: 62 of the 71 late orders shipped on a service with a 4 to 6 day transit against a 3 day stated delivery promise. The listings carried a delivery promise our carrier could not meet, rather than a warehouse delay.] Corrective action already taken 1. [Done, with a date. Example: on [date] we moved all orders over 1kg to [carrier] two-day service.] 2. [Done, with a date. Example: handling time raised from 1 to 2 days across [number] listings on [date].] 3. [Any SKUs or suppliers removed, named.] Preventive controls 1. [The recurring check, who runs it, how often. Example: a daily exception report flags any order not dispatched within the handling window, reviewed each morning by the fulfilment lead.] 2. [The threshold that triggers action before the standard breaches. Example: we act at 96% on-time rather than waiting for 95%.] Current performance [If your numbers have already improved since the deactivation, say so with figures.] Attachments: [order-level data, carrier confirmations, screenshots of the settings changed]
Orders and payouts
Fulfil every open order and keep tracking accurate. Walmart holds settlement for a period after deactivation to cover returns and disputes, and unfulfilled orders reduce the balance and confirm exactly the performance picture you are appealing against. Continuing to ship cleanly through a deactivation is one of the few things that materially strengthens an appeal.
Common questions
How long does a Walmart appeal take?
+
A first response typically takes several business days, and performance-based cases often involve a follow-up request for more data. Walmart does not publish a target, so plan on a few weeks rather than a few days.
What performance standards does Walmart hold sellers to?
+
Walmart publishes thresholds for order defect rate, on-time delivery, valid tracking rate, and cancellation rate in Seller Center, and updates them periodically. Check the current figures in your dashboard rather than relying on a number quoted elsewhere, and cite the dashboard values in your appeal.
Can a deactivated Walmart account be reinstated?
+
Performance-based deactivations are the most recoverable, because the cause is measurable and the fix is demonstrable. Deactivations for prohibited items, counterfeit claims, or breaching the seller agreement are considerably harder.
Is dropshipping allowed on Walmart Marketplace?
+
Sourcing from a supplier and shipping under your own branding is normal. Fulfilling a Walmart order by placing an order with another retailer, so the customer receives that retailer's packaging, breaches the seller agreement and leads to deactivation.
