Listing removed or blocked

Amazon listing or ASIN removed: how to work out why and get it reinstated

A removed ASIN is not one problem, it is about six different problems that all look the same in Seller Central. The removal notice tells you which one you have, and the appeal that works for a restricted-category listing will be rejected outright for an authenticity complaint. Read the notice first, gather the specific evidence that reason requires, then appeal once and properly.

Find the actual removal reason

Go to Account Health, then Product Policy Compliance. Amazon lists suppressed and removed listings there with a stated reason, and that reason is the entire basis of your appeal. Do not work from the email alone, which is often a generic summary.

  • Intellectual property complaint. A rights owner reported the listing for trademark, copyright, or patent infringement. Amazon acted on their notice and looks to them to retract it.
  • Product authenticity or condition customer complaints. Buyers reported the item as inauthentic, used sold as new, or materially different. This is the most document-heavy category.
  • Restricted product or category. The item needs approval, or it cannot be sold at all. Common with supplements, electronics with batteries, medical devices, and anything with safety claims.
  • Listing policy violation. Something in the detail page breaks the rules: prohibited claims, incorrect category, misuse of the ASIN, or variation abuse.
  • Safety or compliance documentation. Amazon wants certificates, test reports, or labelling proof for the product type.
  • Pricing error. The listing is suppressed rather than removed, and it usually restores itself once you correct the price.

Gather the evidence Amazon actually accepts

Most appeals fail on the paperwork rather than on the argument. For authenticity complaints in particular, the invoice requirements are specific and non-negotiable.

  1. Invoices, not receipts. They must show the supplier's name, address, phone number, and website, your name and address as they appear on your seller account, the invoice date, and the item and quantity. Retail receipts, order confirmations, and packing slips are rejected.
  2. Recent enough to matter. Amazon generally wants invoices dated within the last 365 days, covering enough units to explain the sales you made.
  3. A supplier who will confirm the purchase. Amazon may contact them. If they will not answer or the invoice cannot be verified, the appeal fails regardless of how well it is written.
  4. Letters of authorisation for IP claims. For trademark or brand-gating issues, a letter from the rights owner, on their letterhead, naming your seller account and permitting the sale.
  5. Compliance documents where required. Test reports, certificates of conformity, safety data sheets, or ingredient lists, matching the product type Amazon asked about.

You may redact pricing on invoices. Do not redact the supplier's identity or contact details, because that is exactly what Amazon needs to verify.

Writing the appeal

Keep it short and factual. Amazon's investigators read a very large number of these, and the ones that work state the cause, the fix, and the prevention plan without any of the surrounding argument.

Listing reinstatement appeal

Submit through the removal notice in Account Health, not as a general Seller Support ticket.

ASIN: [ASIN]
Removal reason: [exact reason as stated in Account Health]

Root cause
[One or two sentences on what caused the removal. Be specific and take responsibility for the part that is yours. Example: the detail page carried a health claim that is not permitted for this product category, added when the listing was created in March.]

Actions taken
1. [The specific correction, already done, not planned. Example: removed the claim from the bullet points and the description.]
2. [Any related listings you checked and corrected.]
3. [Documents attached: invoice dated [date] from [supplier] covering [quantity] units, and [certificate / letter of authorisation].]

Preventing recurrence
1. [A process change, with who does it and when. Example: every new listing is checked against the category's restricted-claims list before it goes live, by [role], as part of the listing checklist.]
2. [A monitoring step. Example: Account Health is reviewed weekly and any policy notice is actioned within 24 hours.]

If the removal is an IP complaint

Amazon will generally not overturn a rights owner's complaint on your evidence alone. The reliable route is a retraction from the complainant, sent to Amazon directly. Approach them politely, ask what specifically infringed, confirm the listing is down, and ask them to withdraw the notice. This mirrors how VeRO complaints work on eBay, and the eBay VeRO guide covers the approach in more detail.

Common questions

How long does an Amazon listing reinstatement take?

+

Simple listing-policy corrections are often resolved within a few days. Authenticity complaints requiring invoice verification take longer, because Amazon may contact your supplier. IP complaints depend entirely on the rights owner, so there is no reliable timeline.

Why was my invoice rejected?

+

Usually because it is a receipt rather than an invoice, the supplier's full contact details are missing, the name and address do not match the seller account, it is older than 365 days, or the quantity does not cover the sales made. All of those are fixable by getting a proper invoice from the supplier.

Does a removed listing affect my account health?

+

It can. Listing removals appear in Product Policy Compliance, and a pattern of them, especially authenticity or IP complaints, contributes to the account-level risk that leads to deactivation. Treat the first removal seriously.

Can I sell the item on another ASIN while I appeal?

+

No. Listing the same product on a duplicate ASIN to work around the removal is treated as circumventing enforcement and puts the whole account at risk.
